History
USRA's international university network has grown through deliberate changes to its governance. A 2017 bylaw revision created room for members based outside the United States and for dedicated international regions. In May 2024, USRA established Region X ('ten') for its European universities - the first new geographic region in the association's 55-year history. Region X began with eight institutions, while USRA reported 18 international members overall. USRA's current public membership pages list 124 universities, including 19 member institutions outside the United States, showing a network that continues to broaden beyond its original U.S. base.
USRA is incorporated as an independent nonprofit association of universities, initially organised through U.S. geographic regions.
USRA's bylaws are revised to permit up to 25 percent of members to be based outside the United States and to allow dedicated international regions.
Region X is established for European members with eight founding universities. USRA reports 18 international and 102 U.S. member universities.
USRA's public membership stands at 124 universities, including 19 member institutions based outside the United States.
